Poll: Over half disapprove of Trump’s work as president-elect

Over half of voters disapprove of Donald Trump’s performance so far as the president-elect, according to a new poll.

Fifty-one percent are unhappy with Trump’s showing, according to a Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday.

Thirty-seven percent approve of Trump’s actions, and 12 percent do not know or have no opinion.

{mosads}Fifty-five percent of people approve of President Obama’s job performance, his highest score in seven years.

Thirty-nine percent disapprove, meanwhile, and 6 percent do not know or have no opinion.

Pollsters also found nearly half believe Trump’s presidency will be a step down from Obama’s.

Forty-five percent say Trump will be worse than Obama, and 34 percent say he will be better and 15 percent think he will be about the same. Six percent do not know or have no opinion on whether Trump will outperform his predecessor.

Quinnipiac added that although opinions on Trump are mixed, voters are slightly more positive than negative about their future with him.

Fifty-two percent say they are optimistic about the next four years under Trump, and 43 percent say they are pessimistic instead. Five percent do not know or have no opinion.

However, 32 percent of respondents said they predict that Trump will be a bad president. Thirty percent said he will be a good president, and 12 percent said he would be a great president. Six percent do not know or have no opinion.

Obama is scheduled to give a farewell address in Chicago Tuesday night detailing his legacy.

Gallup conducted its latest survey of 889 voters nationwide via cellphone and landline telephone interviews Jan. 5–9. It has a 3.3 percentage point margin of error.
