Inauguration planner: Trump wants it ‘to be about the people’

President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration committee chair, Tom Barrack, said Tuesday that the Jan. 20 event will “be about the people,” rather than a “circus-like celebration that’s a coronation.”

“So what we’ve done instead of trying to surround him with what people consider A-listers is we are going to surround him with the soft sensuality of the place,” Barrack told pool reporters in the lobby of Trump Tower. “It’s a much more poetic cadence than having a circus-like celebration that’s a coronation.”

Barrack referred to the president-elect as “the greatest celebrity in the world,” but said Trump wants the event “to be about the people, not about him.”

And he said Trump doesn’t want to be surrounded by A-list stars in for a more “poetic cadence.”

{mosads}Trump hinted last month that he may enter Washington, D.C. through a grand helicopter entrance on the day of his inauguration. The suggestion reportedly came from Mark Burnett, who produced Trump’s reality television show “The Apprentice.” Barrack said Tuesday that Trump will meet with President Obama in the morning and the pair, along with their wives, would travel together from the White House to the Capitol on Inauguration Day.

“His instruction to me was the campaign is over, I am now president for all the people. I want you to build a bridge and tie them back in. I was to heal the wounds and I want to get back to work on Saturday morning,” Barrack said.
