Trump raises record $90M for inauguration
President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural committee has raised a record $90 million to cover the steep costs of next weekend’s festivities, the Associated Press reported.
That far outpaces President Obama’s $55 million in 2009 and $43 million in 2013, the AP reported.
Donations include $1 million from Boeing and $500,000 from Chevron. The inauguration committee will have 90 days after Jan. 20 to disclose the rest of the donors.
{mosads}The cash haul will likely be more than enough to cover what is expected to be a leaner inauguration — the chair of the inauguration committee, Tom Barrack, has said he wants to avoid a “circus-like atmosphere.”
Trump will hold three inaugural balls to Obama’s 10 in 2009, and the entertainment lineup doesn’t feature the major stars that have joined Obama.
Trump spokesman Boris Epshteyn said that excess money will be donated to charity, but didn’t give specifics.
