Former President George H.W. Bush won’t attend President-elect Trump’s inauguration Friday, saying in a letter he and his wife can’t come because of health reasons.
In a letter sent to Trump on Jan. 10, the 92-year-old former president blamed health issues and the January weather for keeping him from the inauguration.
“Barbara and I are so sorry we can’t be there for your inauguration on January 20th,” Bush wrote in the letter.
“My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara. So I guess we’re stuck in Texas.”

“I want you to know that I wish you the very best as you begin this incredible journey of leading our great country,” Bush wrote.
“If I can ever be of help, please let me know.”
Bush was hospitalized for shortness of breath over the weekend, a family spokesman said Wednesday, but Bush expected to go home soon.
Earlier this month, former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura Bush, said they would attend Trump’s inauguration.
In a statement, Bush’s office said the couple is “pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of power—a hallmark of American democracy—and swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence.”
George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush both did not support Trump during the campaign.
