Conway: Trump’s tweets get ‘outright twisted’
A top aide to Donald Trump says the president-elect’s critics love taking his tweets out of context for their own ends.
“Donald Trump’s social media platforms are a very powerful way for him to communicate and connect directly with people,” Kellyanne Conway said in a preview of an NBC interview airing this Sunday.
“Sometimes what he has said gets distorted or jaundiced or outright twisted into unrecognizable fashion,” added Trump’s incoming counselor. “We’ve all experienced that.”
{mosads}“People take a snippet or a headline and really bastardize it, which I think is really unfortunate. I know it is great clickbait, and I know it’s great for some ratings, but it doesn’t really help fulfill the duty that we all have to inform America.”
Conway added Trump is treated differently than outgoing President Obama when engaging with popular culture.
“Why was it OK for President Obama?” she asked host Willie Geist on “Sunday Today.” “Everybody swooned and thought it was a wonderful idea that he engaged pop culture on his own terms.”
“But if Donald Trump does it a little differently through social media platforms, everybody feigns shock and dismay,” added Conway, who also served as Trump’s presidential campaign manager.
Trump has repeatedly used Twitter for attacking opponents, ranging from critical lawmakers to antagonistic foreign leaders.
