Lewandowski: Trump ‘giving hope’ to Americans
Donald Trump’s first campaign manager says the president-elect will inspire fresh optimism among Americans.
“He’s giving hope,” Corey Lewandowski said Friday on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” “And I don’t mean that in the pejorative sense, because I know Barack Obama also talked about hope.
{mosads}“He’s the messenger of what the American people want and now he’s going to bring that change to Washington. When you’re the president of the United States, it’s time to make your country proud again.”
Lewandowski, who resigned from Trump’s campaign last June, added the billionaire was boosted into the White House by grassroots support.
“No — nobody did,” he said when host George Stephanopoulos asked if he could have imagined Trump swearing-in. “I think Donald Trump would tell you the same thing.”
“When I had the high privilege of sitting with Mr. Trump in January of 2015, it was supposed to be the greatest political field ever on the Republican side,” Lewandowski added of the 2016 GOP presidential primary Trump ultimately won.
Paul Manafort replaced Lewandowski as Trump’s campaign manager in June 2016 before eventually resigning himself last August.
