Conway defends Bannon: He’s saying ‘why don’t you talk less and go listen to America more’

President Trump’s top aide Kellyanne Conway on Sunday blasted the media and defended Stephen Bannon after the president’s chief strategist said the media should “keep its mouth shut.”

“What my colleague Steve Bannon is saying is why don’t you talk less and go listen to America more,” Conway said during an interview on “Fox News Sunday.”

“The media failed to learn America.”

{mosads}Conway said Trump, on the other hand, understood the country.

“And let me just say something else that happens. It’s the way that everything is cherry-picked,” she said.

Conway went on to say that last weekend, she spoke on three Sunday morning talk shows, but reporters didn’t write about any of the substantive information she talked about.

“You know what got picked, the fact that I said alternative facts,” Conway said.

“Not the fact that I ripped a new one to some of those hosts for never covering the facts that matter to American women.”

Conway said she believes in a full and fair press, but that comes with responsibility.

“A responsibility to get the story right. Biased coverage, easy to detect. Incomplete coverage, impossible to detect,” she said.

“That’s my major grievance, is that the media are not — they’re giving us complete coverage.”

Bannon in an interview last week with The New York Times lashed out at the media, calling the press the true “opposition party” and saying the media doesn’t understand the country.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for awhile,” he said in the interview with the Times.

The president and his team often rail on the media, accusing reporters of biased and dishonest coverage against him. On Sunday, Trump blasted The New York Times — a frequent target of his — referring to the publication “fake news.”
