10 still detained at JFK airport under immigration ban: reports

Ten people were still being detained Sunday afternoon at John F. Kennedy Airport, following President Trump’s executive order calling for a 90-day ban on nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries entering the United States. 

That figures came from Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) according to DNA Info.

Jeffries told reporters Sunday that lawmakers are trying to get people who have been detained at JFK released to their family members as soon as possible, according to a video posted by a reporter from The New York Daily News.

“One of the things that’s been most outrageous about the detentions is that there are several individuals, who have been held here, in some cases for more than 30 hours, who are permanent legal residents of the United States of America,” he said.

Jeffries said this is a result of Trump’s “unprecedented, unconstitutional order.”

He added there are other people who have been detained whose family members are “active duty United States military soldiers.”

The executive order the president signed on Friday bars Syrian refugees indefinitely and halts the country’s refugee resettlement program for four months.
