Trump could announce Supreme Court in next two days: report

President Trump could announce his choice for a Supreme Court nominee as early as Monday or Tuesday, according to a new report.

A senior administration official confirmed to an NBC News reporter Sunday that the announcement could come in the next few days.

The president said last week he would announce his pick on Thursday, as some on social media Sunday speculated that the White House was moving the announcement up amid backlash to Trump’s executive order calling for a 90-day ban on nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries entering the United States.

{mosads}Trump’s shortlist to fill the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s seat is said to include Judge William Pryor of Alabama, Judge Neil Gorsuch of Colorado and Judge Thomas Hardiman of Pennsylvania.

Republicans will need at least eight Democrats to support Trump’s nominee to overcome the 60-vote filibuster hurdle.

Last week, the president met with Senate leaders ahead of the Supreme Court announcement.

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) stressed after the meeting they want the president to pick a “mainstream” nominee to fill the high court’s ninth seat.
