Trump: ‘Politics’ threatening national security

President Trump says “politics” is behind a challenge to his temporary ban on travelers from seven Muslim-majority nations and is undermining national security.

“If the U.S. does not win this case as it so obviously should, we can never have the security and safety to which we are entitled. Politics!” he tweeted early Wednesday.

Federal judges grilled lawyers late Tuesday as they weighed whether to reinstate Trump’s controversial immigration and refugee executive order.

{mosads}The San Francisco-based 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals is debating whether it should lift a temporary restraining order on Trump’s travel ban while lawsuits challenging the order proceed.

Trump on Tuesday said the legal battle over his “common sense” measure could ultimately reach the Supreme Court.

The president’s order imposed a 90-day ban on visitors from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Sudan and Yemen. The directive also blocks general refugee admissions into the U.S. for 120 days and indefinitely halts Syrian refugees due to Syria’s ongoing civil war.

Critics have blasted Trump’s order as unconstitutional and biased against Muslims, while the president counters it will prevent radical Islamic terrorism in the U.S.

U.S. District Court Judge James Robart in Seattle temporarily blocked the order late last week, prompting Trump to slam him as “a so-called judge” leaving the nation vulnerable to extremism.

Trump’s order is facing more than 50 lawsuits from religious groups, attorneys general, residents and visitors to the U.S. nationwide.
