Trudeau to meet Trump at WH

President Trump will host Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Washington next week, the White House announced Thursday.

The White House said the two leaders “look forward to a constructive conversation on strengthening the relationship between our two nations” on Monday.

The White House meeting was long expected, despite signs of tension between Trump and Trudeau.

Trudeau, however, recently signaled disagreement with Trump over his executive order temporarily barring refugees and people from seven majority-Muslim nations from entering the U.S. After the order was handed down, the Canadian leader tweeted that refugees are welcome in his country.

The leaders are expected to discuss a renegotiation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Trudeau is a supporter of free trade but has expressed openness toward reworking the landmark pact with Trump.

U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May was the first foreign leader to visit Trump at the White House.

Shinzo Abe, the prime minister of Japan, is scheduled to meet with the president on Friday in Washington. The two leaders are slated to play golf Saturday in Florida.
