Report: Trump upset at Spicer for saying Conway was ‘counseled’

President Trump was reportedly unhappy with White House spokesman Sean Spicer after he said that top aide Kellyanne Conway had been “counseled” over her comments regarding Ivanka Trump’s fashion brand.

A source with direct knowledge of President Trump’s comments told The Associated Press in a report published Friday that the president thought the statement was unfair to Conway.

The source said Trump told his staff that Spicer’s comment made Conway look as if she were in trouble at the White House.

{mosads}On Thursday morning, Conway sparked a flurry of criticism when she publicly defended Trump’s daughter after Nordstrom decided to stop stocking her brand.

“Go buy Ivanka’s stuff, is what I would tell you,” Conway said. “I’m going to give it a free commercial here. Go buy it today.”

House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) on Thursday called Conway’s statement “clearly over the line” and “unacceptable.”

The lawmaker’s Democratic colleague, Rep. Elijah Cummings (Md.), also said the committee will send a joint letter requesting a formal ethics review.

“Kellyanne has been counseled, and that’s all we are going to go with,” Spicer told reporters during his daily briefing on the same day. “She’s been counseled on the subject, and that’s it.”
