Trump, Sessions mingle with charity ball attendees

President Trump greeted guests at his Mar-a-Lago club on Saturday night, stopping outside of a charity ball to mingle, the Palm Beach Daily News reported.

The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute was holding a gala at the Palm Beach, Fla., and the president was reportedly seen outside the event talking with and shaking the hands of guests and club members.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions was also seen with guests at Mar-a-Lago.

{mosads}Sessions was scheduled to meet with the president Saturday and had dinner with Trump, Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly and White House counsel Don McGahn.

The meeting comes amid controversy over Sessions’s testimony to Congress regarding contact with Russia, which resulted in his decision to recuse himself from any investigations into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election and has Democrats calling for him to resign.

The recusal decision came after it was revealed that Sessions, then a Republican senator from Alabama, spoke to Russia’s U.S. ambassador twice during last year’s campaign.

Sessions said during his confirmation hearing in January that he “did not have communications with the Russians.”

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Trump was meeting Saturday “with members of his team tonight on a variety of issues.”
