Pelosi blasts wiretapping claim: Trump ‘doesn’t know what he is talking about’

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Tuesday accused President Trump on inventing the claim that former President Obama wiretapped Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“Once again the president doesn’t know what he is talking about,” Pelosi said during an interview with “CBS This Morning.”

“Because, first of all, a president can’t do that. Maybe he is projecting that’s something he’d like to do, but that isn’t what President Obama did or could do,” she added.

{mosads}Last week, Trump accused his predecessor of having his “wires tapped” during the campaign, comparing the alleged act to Watergate.

“Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” Trump tweeted.

“How low has President Obama gone to tapp [sic] my phones during the very sacred election process. This is Nixon/Watergate. Bad (or sick) guy!” he added.

Pelosi labeled Trump as a “Deflector-in-Chief,” echoing her earlier criticism that the controversy is only a distraction from the other issues.

“He is a deflector in chief. He wants to deflect the fact that there is a Russian connection — personal, political or financial — to him, he wants to deflect the fact that his ban is unpopular on Muslims coming in to the country, he want’s to deflect the fact that he has no jobs bill, no infrastructure bill, nothing,” she said.

When asked if she thought Trump was simply making up the allegations, Pelosi replied, “Yes, I think he is.”
