Poll: Majority supports increased infrastructure spending, opposes border wall funding

A majority of Americans support increasing infrastructure spending and reducing middle-class tax rates, according to a new poll.

A new CNN/ORC poll found that 84 percent of U.S. adults say they would approve of a Trump administration budget proposal that reduces taxes for the middle class, and 79 percent support increased spending on infrastructure.

Slightly more than half of the respondents, 54 percent, are in favor of reducing tax rates for American businesses.

A majority of Americans, 58 percent, also oppose increasing military spending by cutting funding for the State Department, Environmental Protection Agency or other nondefense agencies.

Fifty-seven percent think economic growth should be a priority, even if the federal budget deficit grows. But another 40 percent say that reducing the federal budget deficit should be given priority.

A majority of Americans thinks President Trump’s federal budget proposals generally do more to help the rich; 35 percent think the proposals do more to help the middle class, and 7 percent think the proposals do more to help the poor.

The poll was conducted from March 1 to 4 among 1,025 adults. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
