Hearing set for Trump’s Labor nominee
President Trump’s second choice to the lead the Labor Department will face questions from senators in a confirmation hearing next week.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will hold a confirmation hearing on Alexander Acosta’s nomination at 1:30 p.m. on March 15.
Trump chose Acosta, a former member of the National Labor Relations Board, after Andy Puzder withdrew his nomination one day before his scheduled confirmation hearing. It had become apparent that he did not have the votes to get confirmed.
{mosads}If Acosta is confirmed, he will become Trump’s first Hispanic Cabinet member.
Acosta was the first Hispanic U.S. assistant attorney general and longest-serving U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Former President George W. Bush appointed him to serve as assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice in 2003.
Acosta’s Office of Government Ethics (OGE) paperwork has been submitted to the committee and will be posted on the OGE website. His paperwork for the committee has also been submitted, it said in a release.
