Spicer: Trump committed to seeing GOP healthcare plan through

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in an interview broadcast Saturday that President Trump is committed to the healthcare plan proposed by House Republicans this week.

Vice President Pence made a pitch for the plan during a trip to Kentucky on Saturday, and Trump is expected to discuss the controversial proposal during a rally in Tennessee on Wednesday.

“The president is very committed to seeing this through. He’s been meeting with members from both houses and both parties,” Spicer said of the healthcare plan during an interview on Fox News’s “Justice with Judge Jeanine.”

{mosads}While Spicer did not get into the specifics of the GOP proposal, which has prompted backlash among conservative lawmakers and Democrats, he insisted that the broader plan unveiled by House Republicans on Monday would pass Congress.

“We have to look at this as a comprehensive effort, not just the current bill that’s going through,” Spicer said, explaining a multi-prong approach to repealing and replacing ObamaCare.

The two measures would dismantle ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion and eliminate the individual mandate, which fines those who go without insurance. But the GOP plan allows insurers to charge a 30 percent penalty if there are gaps in a person’s coverage.

The new plan would also create a tax credit system to incentivize people to purchase insurance.
