Trump to stage rally in Ky. ahead of healthcare vote

President Trump plans to stage a rally in Louisville, Ky., next week, a chance for him to push the Republican plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

Next Monday’s event will take place ahead of the House’s high-stakes vote on legislation to overhaul the healthcare system.

It’s also an effort to ramp up pressure on Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, a prominent Republican critic of the plan in the upper chamber.

{mosads}Paul has refused to budge on his disapproval of the plan he calls “ObamaCare lite,” despite multiple entreaties from Trump and his senior team.

Vice President Mike Pence appeared in the Bluegrass State last Saturday to pitch the plan, which would replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) with a more conservative plan that would offer tax credits to help people purchase insurance.

The effort has wide-ranging consequences for Kentucky, which backed Trump in the 2016 election but has also benefitted from the ACA’s expansion of Medicaid.
