Trump dismisses risk of falsehoods: ‘I’m president, and you’re not’

President Trump in a new interview dismisses a question about risks to his “credibility” if any of his statements are proven wrong, saying he is not “doing so badly, because I’m president and you’re not.”

Trump in an interview with Time magazine dodged a question about whether he would believe the intelligence community if it said his tweet alleging he was wiretapped by the Obama administration was false.

Trump instead referred to the “mess” he inherited from the previous administration.

I inherited a mess in the Middle East, and a mess with North Korea, I inherited a mess with jobs, despite the statistics, you know, my statistics are even better, but they are not the real statistics because you have millions of people that can’t get a job, OK. And I inherited a mess on trade,” Trump said.

“I mean we have many, you can go up and down the ladder. But that’s the story. Hey look, in the mean time, I guess, I can’t be doing so badly, because I’m president, and you’re not. You know.”

FBI Director James Comey said during a hearing on Capitol Hill on Monday that there is no evidence to support Trump’s wiretap claims. 

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) said on Wednesday, however, that he had learned from a source that the U.S. intelligence community incidentally collected information on members of Trump’s transition team and then “widely disseminated” the information internally.
