Trump nominates officials for VA, border control

The White House announced Thursday the Trump administration’s nominees for a top border security position and for a senior post in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The Trump administration picked John Ullyot to serve as assistant secretary of Veterans Affairs.

Ullyot served on President Trump’s campaign and transition teams while he worked as a managing partner at Brighton Strategy Group. 

{mosads}Ullyot, a former U.S. Marine, has held senior communication positions on Senate committees including the Armed Services and Veterans’ Affairs committees. He also served in top communication jobs for major corporations like AOL Europe and Intel Corp.

The White House also announced Kevin McAleenan as its nominee to serve as commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) under the Department of Homeland Security. 

McAleenan currently works as the deputy commissioner of the CBP, where he “has developed strategies that protect the Nation’s borders from terrorism, and attack transnational criminal networks, while ensuring the flow of legal commerce and travel,” according to the White House press release. 

McAleenan has served in multiple positions at the CBP, including the Office of Antiterrorism.

McAleenan will need Senate confirmation.
