Poll: Trump voters have positive opinion of president

A large majority of voters who supported President Trump in the 2016 election approve of the job he is doing in office, according to a new survey.

A University of Virginia Center of Politics poll finds the president’s approval rating among those who supported him in last year’s election is 93 percent.

Just 42 percent of those voters “strongly approve” of the president’s job performance, however, and 51 percent “somewhat approve.”

More than 80 percent of Trump voters approve of the job Republicans are doing in Congress. But just 20 percent strongly approve and 61 percent somewhat approve.

{mosads}The poll also finds 70 percent of respondents think the country is heading in the right direction, compared with just 22 percent who think the country is on the wrong track.

About two-thirds of respondents think the economy has been improving since Trump assumed office, compared with just 3 percent who say it’s worse. About one-third of respondents think the economy has not moved in either direction.

About three-quarters of respondents say building the president’s proposed wall along the country’s southern border is at least “somewhat” important to them.

Only 5 percent of respondents blame the president as the most responsible for the previous failed attempt to repeal and replace ObamaCare. Forty-eight percent blame Democrats and 12 percent blame Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).

The poll was conducted among 1,000 Trump voters from April 17 to 19. The margin of error is 3.1 percentage points.
