The National Funeral Directors Association (NFDA) will hold a fundraiser at President Trump’s hotel in Washington late Thursday, according to a new report.
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) will headline Thursday’s event at Trump International Hotel, The Washington Post said.
The event is part of the NFDA’s annual advocacy summit and will benefit the group’s PAC, according to the report.
{mosads}Thursday’s festivities will include a happy-hour reception, a formal dinner and a keynote speech from Gingrich, the newspaper continued.
The NFDA is selling two types of tickets for Thursday’s activities, the Post added, charging $99 for the reception and $200 for the entire event.
“Explore the magnificent space and experience an exclusive evening with the Honorable Newt Gingrich for an inside perspective of politics in Washington, D.C.,” the invitation reads.
The Post said funeral directors are lobbying lawmakers for passage of the Burial Rights for America’s Veterans’ Efforts Act of 2017.
The legislation reportedly would increase the financial benefits related to burials and funerals of veterans.
The NFDA’s PAC has contributed primarily to GOP candidates, according to Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings.
Past recipients include Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.), and former Rep. Ryan Zinke (R-Mont.), who is now the Interior secretary.
An NFDA spokeswoman noted Gingrich’s speech is off-limits to the media, stipulated by a clause in his contract.
“NFDA felt [Gingrich] may be able to offer a unique perspective on how the political challenges he faced during his time in office compare with recent events and what we might expect in the future,” Jessica Koth said.
