Trump: Staying in NY ‘more expensive and disruptive’ than NJ

President Trump on Saturday reiterated his claim that staying at his New Jersey golf club, instead of his New York City penthouse, is cheaper for taxpayers and ultimately a more serene place to work and hold meetings.

“The reason I am staying in Bedminster, N. J., a beautiful community, is that staying in NYC is much more expensive and disruptive. Meetings!” Trump wrote on Twitter.

The tweet echoed his post a day earlier, in which Trump asserted that staying at his New Jersey golf club property would be quieter and ultimately save the government money.

“Rather than causing a big disruption in N.Y.C., I will be working out of my home in Bedminster, N.J. this weekend. Also saves country money!” he tweeted.

The president met with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull on Thursday in Manhattan, where he made an appearance at the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Coral Sea, a World War II battle, in which the U.S. and Australia joined forces against Japan.

Trump has spent several weekends since taking office in January at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla. The frequent trips have been the subject of scrutiny from some who say the president is racking up millions of dollars in unnecessary travel expenses.

Trump often attacked former President Barack Obama for playing golf on weekends or taking vacations. Trump has spent 22 days since taking office in January at his golf properties, according to The New York Times, which has tracked his golf outings.
