First lady to join Trump on first foreign trip

First lady Melania Trump will accompany her husband on his first presidential trip overseas later this month, according to the White House.

“Of course she will be joining her husband for the entire trip, and yes, she will be making several public appearances,” spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said Tuesday, according to The Washington Examiner.

President Trump announced last week that he would visit Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Vatican later this month.

Trump also plans on attending a meeting of the Group of Seven major industrialized countries in Sicily on May 26-27.

The Trump administration has touted the president’s visit to Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Vatican as stops at the centers of three of the world’s major faiths.

President Trump and his aides have said the trek is meant to rally allies and partners in the fight against shared security threats in the Middle East.

“We will begin to construct a new foundation of cooperation and support with our Muslim allies to combat extremism, and terrorism and violence and to embrace a more just and hopeful future for Muslims in their countries,” he said at the White House of starting his travels in Saudi Arabia.

The gathering in Saudi Arabia will also include leaders of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and other nations.

Melania Trump currently resides in New York City with Barron, her son with the president.

Reports emerged last month that the first lady is “preparing the residence” for a move to the White House expected “sometime this summer.”
