President Trump on Friday praised a series of agreements that ease market barriers for the U.S. in China, calling the announcement of the deal “REAL news” after a series of tweets slamming “fake news.”
“China just agreed that the U.S. will be allowed to sell beef, and other major products, into China once again. This is REAL news!” Trump wrote on Twitter a day after Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross announced the deal.
{mosads}Trump has frequently used the term “fake news” to describe media coverage of his administration that he deems unfavorable or critical and has often called on news outlets to focus more heavily on issues that are important or meaningful to him.
The U.S. has sought to export beef to China for years. The agreement reached on Thursday would also allow China to export cooked poultry to the U.S.
Ross said he believes the deal will help to lower America’s $347 billion trade deficit with China.
“By the latter part of the year, you should see something,” Ross said.
