State Dept. condemns attacks in Iran

The State Department has condemned the terror attacks that took place Wednesday in Iran.

“The United States condemns the terrorist attacks in Tehran today,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement.

“We express our condolences to the victims and their families, and send our thoughts and prayers to the people of Iran. The depravity of terrorism has no place in a peaceful, civilized world.”

{mosads}The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the double attack at the Iranian parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran.

The attacks killed at least 12 people and wounded dozens more, the Associated Press reported.

Attackers armed with rifles went into the parliament building, where one detonated a suicide vest inside amid the ongoing siege, according to state-run media.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Iran is an “active and effective pillar in the fight against terrorists and they want to damage it.”
