DC, Maryland attorneys general to file suit against Trump

The Democratic attorneys general of Maryland and Washington, D.C., will file a lawsuit Monday against President Trump, according to The Washington Post.

{mosads}The suit will allege that foreign payments to the president’s businesses violate an anti-corruption clause of the Constitution.

It would be the first suit if its kind brought by a government entity, the Post added.

The lawsuit was scheduled to be announced at noon on Monday.

Lindsay Jancek, a spokesperson for the Republican National Committee, pushed back against the suit in a Monday statement.

“This lawsuit brought against our president is absurd. From day one, President Trump has been committed to complete transparency and compliance with the law. The actions of the attorneys general represent the kind of partisan grandstanding voters across the country have come to despise. The American people elected President Trump to lead this country, and it is time Democrats end their efforts to delegitimize his presidency.”
