Indian PM to visit WH on June 26

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the White House on June 26, White House press secretary Sean Spicer announced on Monday.

Spicer said President Trump and Modi plan to build on U.S.-India relations as well as focus on shared goals like ways to combat terrorism and build on economic growth.

“He looks forward to discussing the ways to strengthen our ties between the United States and India and advancing our common priorities fighting terrorism, promoting economic growth and reforms and expanding security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region,” Spicer said at Monday’s briefing.

Trump spoke with Modi by phone earlier this year when the president first took office and invited the Indian prime minister to visit the White House later this year.

Modi was a close ally of former President Barack Obama, particularly on economic issues, but he’s looking for even closer relations with Trump’s administration.
