Ally defends Trump’s silence on mosque attack

Jason Miller, a former communications adviser for the Trump campaign, is defending President Trump for not speaking out against the attack that occurred outside a mosque in London Monday, pointing to the death of American Otto Warmbier. 

“It just happened yesterday. It might simply be that the president is waiting to get more information and that might be something we hear from shortly,” Miller said early on CNN’s “New Day.”

“We don’t know everything that is going on behind the scenes. We don’t know what is coming in from intelligence reports,” Miller added.

One person died and other pedestrians were injured during what is being investigated as a terror-related attack.

Miller said Trump likely was focused on Warmbier, the U.S. student who died Monday after being released from a North Korean prison, where he was held for 17 months. Warmbier, who was released by Pyongyang last week, had been in a coma. 

“I think the president had his focus clearly on the Americans who were killed yesterday, and that’s where he was keeping most of his attention,” Miller said Tuesday. “Big credit to the administration for getting Otto Warmbier home, I wish we could’ve got him back in better shape.”

“I think look, this attack literally, Chris, just happened yesterday. I think to go and say that the president hasn’t done it yet and therefore he’s not going to or to think he’s ignoring it — I don’t think we can make that assumption,” he added.

It took Trump just two hours to tweet out about the ISIS-claimed London Bridge attack on June 3 that killed seven, and he followed up his initial tweet with nearly a dozen tweets across three days.
