Trump: Obama not leading the resistance

President Trump in an interview that aired Sunday pushed back on the notion that former President Barack Obama is leading the resistance against his administration. 

“I don’t think he’s leading it. He actually just put out a small statement. I don’t see that leading it. But other people are leading,” Trump told Pete Hegseth on “Fox and Friends.”

{mosads}Trump instead pointed to partisan politics and the lack of collaboration across the party lines as a hindrance to his agenda.

“One of the things that should be solved, but it probably won’t be, is that the Republicans and Democrats don’t get together,” the president continued. “They fight each other. The level of hostility. In other words, this isn’t just Trump, this has been like this for years.”

“It’s been like that for a long time,” Trump said, citing the “hostility” surrounding the recently introduced Senate GOP healthcare bill.

Trump also slammed Democrats such as Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) for being “obstructionists” who will fight against any efforts or legislation coming out of his White House.

“Don’t forget, I saw Schumer criticizing the bill a couple of weeks ago, and he had no idea what was in the bill. He was saying this bill is this and it’s that — he had no idea. In fact, the Republican senators didn’t know, because it wasn’t released. Very few people knew,” he told Hegseth.

“But that’s called the resistance, and that’s a terrible word. Think of it. Their theme is resist. Their theme should be, let’s get together, envelop. Let’s get together. But their theme is resist,” Trump continued.

Trump added that voters do not like the Democratic party’s obstructionist message.
