France’s Macron invites Trump to visit for Bastille Day

French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday reportedly invited President Trump to come to Paris for Bastille Day.

Macron also extended the invitation to first lady Melania Trump, The New York Times reported, citing a statement from Élysée Palace.

The military parade in Paris is scheduled for July 14.

{mosads}According to the Times, it was not yet known if Trump will accept Macron’s invitation.

The invitation came when Trump spoke with Macron on the phone Tuesday regarding Syria.

Last month, after meeting with Trump at the G-7 summit in Italy, Macron showered high praise on Trump’s “capacity to listen.”

“I saw a leader with strong opinions on a number of subjects, which I share in part — the fight against terrorism, the willingness to keep our place in the family of nations — and with whom I have disagreements that we spoke about very calmly,” Macron said on Trump last month.

“I saw someone who listens and who is willing to work.”

After Trump announced his decision to withdraw the U.S. from the Paris climate agreement, Macron launched a website aimed at combatting climate change. The site’s name — “Make Our Planet Great Again” — was a play on Trump’s campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

The two leaders will also meet at the G-20 summit next month in Germany.
