DNC: Trump tweets about Brzezinski ‘an attack on women everywhere’
The Democratic National Committee ripped into President Trump on Thursday for attacking the appearance of MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski, saying his “bullying tweets are an attack on women everywhere.”
The DNC’s statement came after Trump went after Brzezinski’s intelligence and looks in a series of Thursday morning tweets, writing that the news anchor “was bleeding badly from a face-lift” when she visited him at his Palm Beach resort around the New Year.
{mosads}“Trump’s bullying tweets are an attack on women everywhere,” the DNC said. “From his Twitter slurs to his policies, we have a president who continues to show us he has no regard for women and whose comments demean the office he holds.”
The statement pointed to Trump’s history of making controversial remarks about women’s looks.
“Trump has a long pattern of making demeaning, sexist and discriminatory comments about the women who take him on. The fact that they happen frequently doesn’t make them okay,” the statement continued.
Lawmakers from both parties have denounced Trump’s remarks about Brzezinski.
During the presidential primaries, Trump faced backlash for insulting the appearance of fellow Republican contender Carly Fiorina.
“Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?” Trump said during an interview with Rolling Stone published in the fall of 2015.
And after intense primary debate questioning from moderator Megyn Kelly, Trump said that the then-Fox News host had “blood coming out of her wherever.”
