Former Mueller aide in talks to join Trump legal team: report
A former aide to special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly in talks to represent President Trump.
Mueller’s former chief of staff, Daniel Levin, is considering becoming a part of the team that includes Marc Kasowitz, CNN reported Thursday, citing two people briefed on the discussions.
Levin served as Mueller’s chief of staff during Mueller’s time as FBI director. In May, the Justice Department appointed Mueller to oversee its probe into Russian election meddling and possible ties between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin.
Levin said in May that Mueller has a “very good sense of how things work.”
{mosads}”He’s really not looking to make himself look good. He will get to the right result, whatever it is,” he told CNN about Mueller in May.
“He’s the first person in and the last person out, that’s the reason everyone claims he is the gold standard,” Levin added at the time of his former boss.
Washington legal veteran John Dowd joined Kasowitz, Michael Bowe and Jay Sekulow in representing the president in the investigation, a spokesman for the team said earlier this month.
Trump has decried the Russia probe as a “witch hunt” and has gone after media outlets for their coverage of the issue.
