Bremmer struck by length, ‘warmth’ of second Trump-Putin talk

Ian Bremmer said early Wednesday that the length and “warmth” of an informal talk earlier this month between President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was unusual.

“It’s not surprising for leaders to have informal pull-asides when they have business to discuss in the context of these summits,” the president of the Eurasia Group said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“But what is unusual is the length, the warmth, in the context of what is already an unprecedented relationship between Trump and Putin in the context of the broader U.S.-Russia relationship.”

{mosads}Reports surfaced Tuesday that Trump had a second, informal talk with Putin at a dinner for the Group of 20 heads of state in Germany.

Their discussion came hours after their formal bilateral sit-down, White House press secretary Sean Spicer confirmed.

During the second conversation, which had previously gone without mention by the administration, the two leaders spoke for about an hour.

Bremmer said many of the heads of state in the room — including some of America’s most important allies — were “quite surprised.”

“They found it unusual and noteworthy,” he said during the interview Wednesday.

“The body language, the chemistry, the fact that it went on for so long and the fact that of course, it reflected a much warmer relationship between Trump and Putin than he has with any of the other leaders in the room.”
