White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in an interview Wednesday that President Trump will keep fighting to repeal ObamaCare, despite the collapse of the Senate GOP’s bill to repeal and replace it.
Spicer told CBN that the current healthcare system is “clearly dead,” and that Trump will work to deliver on the GOP’s promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.
“He’s not going to give up,” Spicer said, “he’s going to keep fighting.”
{mosads}Spicer also said Trump, who on Wednesday told GOP senators they should cancel their August recess to pass healthcare legislation, “is committed to doing what he can to get this over the finish line.”
“He understands how important healthcare is to American families and individuals so he’s going to do everything he can to make sure that he puts a bill in place that gives the American people the access to health care and the affordability that they were promised eight years ago,” he added.
Spicer appeared on CBN’s new “Faith Nation” political talk show.
During the interview, he also responded to criticism for his decision to hold some White House press briefings off camera.
“I think for a lot of folks, they’re more interested in getting the clip to put on the internet,” he said, while emphasizing the White House’s commitment to communicate the president’s agenda and answer key questions.
