Kremlin: ‘Absolutely absurd’ to say Trump, Putin had secret meeting

President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not hold a “secret second meeting” at the Group of 20 (G-20) summit in Germany, the Kremlin said Thursday.

“There was no secret second meeting,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, according to Reuters.

Peskov told reporters the two talked informally during dinner earlier this month.

{mosads}He added that there is a chance another meeting between Trump and Putin would happen “at some point,” but there are no plans set.

Peskov also reportedly called the assertion that Trump and Putin held a secret meeting “absolutely absurd,” according to Russian news agencies.

“The use of a term like ‘undercover’ or ‘secret meeting’ raises eyebrows,” Peskov told state TV, the agencies reported.

“They had a bilateral meeting that had been officially agreed through diplomatic channels, then they repeatedly exchanged views and remarks on the sidelines. There were no undercover or secret meetings and to assert that there were is absolutely absurd,” Peskov is quoted as saying.

The comments come after a report earlier this week emerged that Trump held a second, informal talk with Putin on the sidelines of the G-20 summit.

In that conversation, Trump spoke with Putin for about an hour and was joined only by Putin’s translator, according to the reports. The meeting had previously gone without mention by the administration.
