Scaramucci: ‘Gotcha’ politics are over

Newly appointed White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci issued what appeared to be a warning to the press on Saturday, saying “gotcha” politics are over.

“The politics of “gotcha” are over. I have a thick skin and we’re moving on to [Trump’s] agenda serving the American people,” Scaramucci tweeted.

Scaramucci also knocked the mainstream media in an interview with Breitbart on Saturday, saying he would focus on trying to “de-escalate” media “bias.”

“My goal is to continue to penetrate through that shell and hopefully over time, too, to see if we can do something to de-escalate some element of that media bias and see if we can, you know, get a little bit more objectivity and fairness in the system, because I know you can look at it objectively and see that it isn’t fair right now,” he said. 

Scaramucci’s comments came a day after he was appointed to the communications director post.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned after Scaramucci was hired, and will be replaced by Sarah Huckabee Sanders when he officially leaves his post in August.

The White House grappled with a long series of media reports surrounding the ongoing federal probe into alleged ties between the Trump administration and Russia.

Various members of the White House communication’s team have long claimed the news media has not spent enough time covering the president’s agenda, despite recent revelations from the Russia investigation.

In July, Trump’s deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka told CNN: “We are pushing the ‘Make America Great Again’ agenda, the president is a steam locomotive that cannot be stopped, it’s just fake news.”

And on Friday, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told Fox News: “It’s the rush to judgment. It’s the presumptive negativity that always follows this president and everyone around him.”

Despite the new communications team leadership, Trump appears to be up to his usual Twitter habits, issuing a series of tweets early Saturday morning on topics including The New York Times, healthcare and Donald Trump Jr.’s emails.
