Conway: Leaks of Trump’s calls should have ‘chilling effect’

President Trump’s top adviser and former campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, said Thursday that the leaks of Trump’s calls with world leaders should concern every American and have a “chilling effect” on the media.

Conway told CNN’s Chris Cuomo that even the Trump administration’s top critics in the Democratic Party were concerned about this latest round of leaks.

“Sen. Mark Warner, he’s a Democrat from Virginia, he said it was quote, ‘disgraceful,’ and we here agree with him,” Conway told CNN on Thursday.

“Disgraceful that conversations between President Trump and world leaders are being leaked,” Conway continued. “I hope you’ll agree with me, as an American, Chris, that we can’t have leaks of conversations between presidents and other world leaders and feel good about that, and cover the content of those conversations.”

{mosads}Conway said that the media needed to re-examine what was appropriate to report in the wake of these newest illegal leaks.

“It should be a chilling effect to everyone today that a president, as Sen. Warner said, a Democrat from Virginia said, often a Trump critic said, governors, senators, presidents have to be able to know they’re having confidential conversations,” Conway said, “and if not our national security is imperiled.”

Conway echoed these comments Friday morning in an interview with Fox News.

“What should really concern everyone are these leaks that imperil national security,” Conway said Friday morning.

On Thursday, the Trump administration announced that Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats would hold a press briefing Friday morning to address the damaging intelligence leaks that have plagued the Trump administration. That briefing is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday.
