Ex-RNC head: Trump is ‘obsessed with his own self-image’

Former Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Steele said that President Trump is “obsessed with his own self-image,” according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

“This is who he is. This is a guy obsessed with his own self-image; how his numbers are doing, whether everything is playing to a narrative he has developed in his own head,” he told the news outlet.

Steele added that Trump is not used the the gridlock in Congress or pushback from lawmakers who have their own agendas.

{mosads}”Not everyone listens to you just because you’re president,” Steele said. “You have 535 members of Congress who have a different view. You have Cabinet secretaries who, while they might work for you, still carry out different agendas.”

He also said Trump doesn’t deal well with members of the press and interest groups that disagree with him, pointing to the presidents background in business, where he was able to make decisions without pushback.

“No one said, ‘No sir, I really don’t think we should do that,’ because if you did you didn’t come into work the next day, as there was no job,” Steele said.

Trump early Monday said that his base is “bigger & stronger than ever before,” pointing in a tweet to the turnout at recent campaign-style rallies.

Trump’s approval rating — 33 percent —  hit a new low in a recent poll.
