Pence’s official governor portrait revealed

Vice President Pence’s official governor portrait was revealed at a ceremony at the Indianapolis Statehouse on Friday.

Pence, along with second lady Karen Pence and Gov. Eric Holcomb (R), was present at the event, which marked a state tradition of gubernatorial portraits that goes back to 1869. 

The vice president made comments at the ceremony and happened to be wearing the same tie that he is seen wearing in the portrait.

{mosads}”I do have more than one tie,” he joked. 

Pence is seen in the portrait sitting at his desk, with various items he asked to be included, such as a Bible, family picture, two law books that belonged to his father, and the U.S. and Indiana flags. 

“He thought that things are a bit more serious in Washington, D.C., than back here in the Hoosier state,” portrait artist Mark Dillman told The Indianapolis Star.  “That’s one reason he wanted that friendlier, more casual appearance.”

Pence served as Indiana’s governor from 2013 to 2017, when he was sworn in as vice president.
