US general, S. Korean leader meeting Monday: report

ThecChairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff will reportedly meet with South Korea’s president on Monday.

Bloomberg reported that Gen. Joseph Dunford will meet with President Moon Jae-in and other military officials.

{mosads}The reported meeting follows a week of heightened tensions between North Korea and the United States.

President Trump last week promised “fire, fury and, frankly, power” should Pyongyang continue to threaten the United States.

North Korea responded to those remarks by raising the possibility of a strike near the U.S. territory of Guam.

Trump administration officials who made the rounds on the Sunday show circuit this week argued that the United States is not on the brink of a nuclear war with North Korea.

National security adviser H. R. McMaster said the U.S. is no closer to war than it was a week ago, while CIA Director Mike Pompeo said there is “no intelligence” suggesting the country is on the verge of a nuclear war.
