Trump goes after Amazon on Twitter

President Trump on Wednesday went after Amazon, saying the company is hurting retailers.

“Amazon is doing great damage to tax paying retailers,” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

“Towns, cities and states throughout the U.S. are being hurt – many jobs being lost!”

{mosads}Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos owns The Washington Post, and Trump has in the past linked Amazon to the Post.

The president has referenced the “Amazon Washington Post” and has accused the paper of being “a lobbyist weapon” against politicians.

He has also accused the company of “not paying internet taxes.”

Trump’s comments on Amazon came after the Post on Tuesday published an editorial titled “The nation can only weep.” In the piece, the Post called it a great day for “racists everywhere,” adding that the president “all but declared that he has their backs.”

“That car in Charlottesville did not kill or wound just the 20 bodies it struck. It damaged the nation,” the editorial said, referring to a driver with alleged ties to white supremacist groups who plowed into peaceful counterprotesters in Charlottesville, Va., during the “Unite the Right” rally this past weekend. “Mr. Trump not only failed to help the country heal; he made the wound wider and deeper.”

Amazon also collects sales taxes everywhere, according to a CNN report earlier this year.

Earlier this month, Defense Secretary James Mattis visited Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle. Bezos posted a photo of him showing Mattis around the headquarters.
