White House: Trump and McConnell ‘remain united’

The White House on Wednesday emphasized that President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) “remain united” amid reports saying it has been weeks since the two leaders last spoke.

“President Donald J. Trump and Senator Mitch McConnell remain united on many shared priorities, including middle class tax relief, strengthening the military, constructing a southern border wall, and other important issues,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

{mosads}The statement follows a report in The New York Times saying McConnell has privately expressed uncertainty as to whether Trump can rebound from his series of controversies.

McConnell also released his own statement on Wednesday, insisting the two are dedicated to a “shared agenda.” 

“We have a lot of work ahead of us, and we are committed to advancing our shared agenda together and anyone who suggests otherwise is clearly not part of the conversation,” McConnell said in a statement.

The White House said McConnell and Trump will be holding previously scheduled meetings after the congressional recess.

“House and leadership staff are coordinating regarding the details of those meetings,” Sanders said.
