Trump advised to hold off on Arpaio pardon: report

President Trump has reportedly been urged to hold off on pardoning former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

Lawyers for the White House say the contempt charge Arpaio was convicted of earlier this month can be reversed, according to CBS News. Meanwhile, they have also told Trump to wait until Arpaio is sentenced in October to see if he receives jail time.

{mosads}”He could go ahead and do it but the advice is to wait and at least until sentencing,” a source told the news outlet. “The hope is he lets the process play out some more.”

Trump, during a Tuesday night rally in Phoenix, teased a pardon for Arpaio, who was convicted of contempt for ignoring a court order that he halt his office’s racial profiling policies.

“I will make a prediction — I think he’s going to be just fine,” Trump told the crowd Tuesday. “But I won’t do it tonight because I don’t want to cause any controversy. Is that okay?”
