White House staff to throw Spicer farewell party

Sean Spicer’s White House colleagues are throwing the former press secretary a “farewell party” on his last official day, CNN reported Wednesday.

Spicer resigned his post in July but stayed on in the White House through August to help with the transition. His last official day will be Thursday.

He resigned after President Trump tapped New York banker Anthony Scaramucci as White House communications director.

Spicer’s exit was the first of several high-profile departures from the administration. Reince Priebus departed as chief of staff and Scaramucci himself was fired after only 10 days on the job. Both Spicer and Priebus had opposed Scaramucci’s hiring.

Spicer was known for his clashes with reporters in the White House press briefing room, and for being notably parodied by comedian Melissa McCarthy on “Saturday Night Live.”

President Trump tweeted that Spicer had taken “tremendous abuse” from the media, and had a “bright” future after he announced his resignation.
