Trump lawyer rebuts claims in Russian dossier: report

President Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, is denying allegations in a dossier alleging that Cohen has connections to Russia, according to a report in The New York Times.

A lawyer for Cohen in a letter to Congress provided what the Times referred to as a “point-by-point rebuttal” of the controversial dossier, which included numerous allegations such as a secret trip to Prague Cohen took during the presidential race to meet with a Russian official.

“We have not uncovered a single document that would in any way corroborate the dossier’s allegations regarding Mr. Cohen, nor do we believe that any such document exists,” Stephen Ryan wrote in the letter, which was obtained by the newspaper.

“Mr. Cohen vehemently denies the claims made in the dossier about him, which are false and remain wholly unsubstantiated.”

News of the letter comes after a report this week said Cohen sent an email to a press address for Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov asking for help with a stalled Trump real estate venture in Moscow.

Another report this week described exchanges between Cohen and a former Trump business associate in which the associate said he would solicit Russian President Vladimir Putin to help with a proposed real estate deal he claimed would help Trump win the White House.

“Mr. Cohen is not aware of any impropriety related to Mr. Trump’s ‘relationship’ with Russia, nor is he aware of Mr. Trump having an improper political relationship with officials of the Russian Federation,” the letter from Cohen’s lawyer to Congress reads. 

Cohen provided Congress with documents this week.
