Russia calls US shuttering diplomatic facilities ‘state hooliganism’

A Russian official on Monday called the United States’ shuttering of Russian facilities “state hooliganism.”

“I am inclined to call what is happening state hooliganism,” said Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, as reported by Reuters.

The comment comes after the Trump administration last week ordered Russia to shutter a consulate in San Francisco and annexes in Washington, D.C., and New York.

The State Department announced on Thursday that Russia had until Saturday to close the facilities.

The announcement also comes as the Department of Justice’s special counsel continues its probe into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
