Ivanka Trump: Many have ‘unrealistic expectations’ of my influence with father

Ivanka Trump says her liberal critics have “unrealistic expectations” of her ability to influence President Trump’s agenda.

“Some people have created unrealistic expectations of what they expect from me,” she wrote in an email to the Financial Times.

“That my presence in and of itself would carry so much weight with my father that he would abandon his core values and the agenda that the American people voted for when they elected him,” she continued. “It’s not going to happen. To those critics, shy of turning my father into a liberal, I’d be a failure to them.”

Some Democrats have looked to the president’s elder daughter to moderate his policies.

But her moderating role has been called into question recently by some, who point to Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord and rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, among other decisions, as evidence that Ivanka has ultimately been ineffective.

Ivanka is widely seen as one of the president’s most influential advisers and confidantes. In March, she joined her father’s White House as a senior adviser.
