Former Trump campaign adviser: ‘Retweets do not equal endorsements’

A former adviser for President Trump’s campaign on Sunday offered a defense for Trump after he shared an edited video clip that appeared to show him knocking down Hillary Clinton with a golf ball.

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” David Urban was asked whether it was appropriate for Trump to tweet the edited clip.

Urban said the president speaks directly to the people.

“I’m not going to judge what’s appropriate or inappropriate of the president,” he said.

{mosads}He added: “Retweets do not equal endorsements.”

When pressed on why Trump is still so “obsessed” with Clinton, Urban said he doesn’t think the president is “obsessed” with her.

“He beat her,” he said. Clinton was the Democratic nominee in the 2016 presidential election.

His comments come after Trump retweeted the edited GIF Sunday originally shared from an account called @Fuctupmind.

The clip shows Trump hitting a golf ball, which carries over into another clip and is edited to look like it makes Clinton fall.

Trump has tweeted other modified videos in the past. In July, the president retweeted an edited video which appeared to show Trump body slamming CNN in a wrestling match. The president faced backlash for the post. The White House defends Trump’s use of Twitter as a democratizing form of communication.
