A former top aide to U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley is joining President Trump’s legal team, Politico is reporting.
Steven Groves, who served as Haley’s chief of staff until last month, will be the deputy to Ty Cobb, a White House lawyer who joined the administration to handle the Mueller probe.
{mosads}Groves previously worked at the Heritage Foundation.
His addition to the legal team comes amid special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s election meddling and any potential ties between Trump campaign staff members and the Kremlin.
The investigation has reportedly caused rising tensions between Cobb and White House counsel Don McGahn. Cobb has advised the administration to hand over as many documents as it can for the special counsel, while McGahn is worried about precedents that could weaken future White House administrations, The New York Times reported.
